Coriander Friday .

Fridays are days that I wake up late take my sweet time and enjoy the weekend, today couldn't sleep after 5 am ,  energy to plant some more.

Since couldn't have patience to see my garden grow, told you before got a couple of them from the nursery to give me some motivation. One of it was the Thechi poo , planted it and couldn't stop.

Had a pack of the coriander that I purchased from the family food centre before , planting coriander for the first time , opened that pack...ha it's normal daniya seeds , why did I have to spend qr 450 ? Have a lot of it at home for cooking ...don't know if it's the same thou..guess need to germinate them , not sure. Ok so I plant these seeds ...

Now got to wait and see how these little ones will come up, jeez I want them grow tomorrow .

    Coriander Friday ....

It’s Okra Time

Okra / Ladies finger  - it is among the most heat- and drought-tolerant vegetable species  and will tolerate soils with heavy clay and intermittent moisture but frost can damage the pods – that’s the info that I got on the Google.

So what I did was got some seeds from the Floranaza Nursery located in Wakra near the Qtel roundabout, costed me around 4.50 QR.

Sowed all the seeds in a pot, around the end of June .
Since it was fighting for space, I transplanted it , when it has some leafs around the mid of July
Transplanted on July 10 - 2013

Being a beginner and seeing the plants droop , lost hope and posted my first post in OTG , Many experts ,I would say, gave their comments .. Most of them did say the plant will pull up and don’t watch the pot boiling now!

So true it’s been a month now and I can say transplant works – Just add a bit of sugar water and make sure you don’t expose the roots to much of air and iyakai (nature) will take care.

Still Growing - Aug 14 - 2013

Saw some lovely pearl /dew drop/sweats like thingy on the leaves – made me panic– so many people posting insects attack, this deficiency, that deficiency etc
Don’t do anything its just making some changes, natural secretions from the okra plant through glands on the leaves and stems. This is a natural process of the plant and causes no damage. Leave it alone.

Okra Sweat's As you Sweat its normal !

But be careful not to brush too much against the plant or you’d have to deal with itchy skin.

Sep 01 2013 , first flowers blooming ...

Not a clear pic thou :) Need to develop some photographic Skills

Oct 07 - After almost 6 to 10 flowers bloom - one of the okras seems to show
up . That's when i get the whole concept , when it blooming , add the cows
manure or some feed .
It took 3 months to grow from the initial sowing.

Hats of to the farmers who grow vegges in abundance , every time i say no to
vegges while i eat , ill think of the patience , sweat , handwork , it took for the
farmers to grow each one of them ...

My First Plants on Qatari Boomi

It’s been Eid , holidays - expected to get some time and do some gardening, But the painting work was pending in the backyard and Chiya was asking me to do it post the painting .

Didn't have patience – and started planting my very auspicious and loving plantain (last day of Eid -12/Aug/2013)

I was lucky got a plantain pub for 25 QR from the Paradise Nursery   few days back (planted it in the plastic trolley) and nature had given me another Pub , De-Pubed it and planted it successfully on the ground.

Baby Plantain

De-Pubed from the Baby Plantian
The painter turned up and had to cover the plants to avoid the nasty paints on my baby plants.

One of the little pubs were burnt in the scorching heat of Qatar and turned pale, crossing my fingers for the little one to grow. My soul parted seeing it turn pale. The other one seems to survive.

:( fingers crossed to see some miracle

Transplanted the Bitter gourd plant which turned up near the plantain also – had some helpers (stick) around it – it looked pale also – added some sugar solution while transplanting .

Boomi giving me a surprise, Woke up this morning to see the Gourd taking the help of the bamboo stick

Gourd from the kitchen waste - Transplanted

Bamboo sticks got from the Omani souk QR 4 /per stick, Purchased around 10, each five feet long, some cut short to 2 feet, Lots of shops and we got to bargain – he said it was 8 riyals! And gave it half the price!

These are small things being in India, but in Qatar it’s worth a note for sticks, stones anything isn't it! You know.

Jack of all trades, master of none , Here i go with a new experience .

Laid my hands in so many things to keep myself busy , but nothing so far have kept me feel complete ! My husband (sri will refer as Chiya in my rest of the post ) stands with me for all this !

Got to See the OTG site on Facebook and my craze for gardening and growing vegetables have started !

Gravel full backyard - pic before work .
Now its time to change the gravels in to a good safe garden so i can have Hari(Son) help me.

H is a active baby and is helpful in everything , he is just 3 and it amazes me to see ,how helpful he is .The liltte pots that you see  ,H helped me with it - Adding potting soil ,water ,planting - A good experience .

Started of work at the backyard , met the helpers, asked they to lay the concrete in a L DESIGN ,work started off at 3:30 in the morning since its Ramadan and ended up at 10:30 ,it was a saturday 3/Aug/2013 .

Work has completed after 3 days - concrete laid, soil(clay) with camel manure mix , added the green shade to avoid the scorching heat in Qatar !

This is how it looks !
Clearing gravel - pic after work.

Charges for the work : 2600 QR

(2000 for the concrete and soil etc , 600 for the labor for the shade - he excluded the work for the pipe he layed outside )
